Pregnancy Constipation

“Acupuncture and herbs are safe, natural ways to treat constipation during pregnancy. Acupuncture is relaxing, effective and often produces immediate results. I specialize in treating women’s health and pregnancy, and love the noticeable effects that treatment can have on digestive issues.”  Melani Bolyai, L.Ac.

Constipation during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester, is a very common complaint. The first trimester is a time when a woman already feels bloated and swollen as her body adjusts to the hormones of pregnancy. When bowel movements that are difficult, sluggish or incomplete are added to the picture, the combination can be extremely uncomfortable and upsetting. Women who are required to take extra iron are even more vulnerable to constipation.

Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?

Luckily, acupuncture treatments can be very effective at clearing constipation; sometimes herbs can be of benefit as well. Acupuncture addresses the root of the reason why an individual woman is experiencing constipation. For some women, the tendency toward holding tension makes them more susceptible to constipation. For others, a condition Chinese medicine defines as being deficient in moisture and blood creates dry, harder-to-pass stools. Acupuncture clears constipation by relaxing tension and nourishing dryness.

Treatments can be effective and bring relief sometimes within minutes of treatment.
