“I was in a chronic state of irritable gloom. I had such a short fuse that it was scary. After the first session, I noticed an improvement, and after about three or four sessions, there was a very big improvement.” – patient
It is not uncommon for pregnant women to experience depression. Changes in hormonal balance and physical stress can cause depression, and women who are predisposed to the ailment are at risk for depression during pregnancy. Doctors do not recommend antidepressant drugs as a treatment for women who are pregnant because of possible harm to the fetus and cause harmful side effects for the mother. However, untreated depression can have increased adverse effects on both mother and child, and can create a higher risk for postpartum depression. More and more women look to acupuncture as a way to treat depressive symptoms as well as to enjoy a more natural, integrated way of experiencing the process of pregnancy and birth.
