and Acupuncture
Acupuncture can be an invaluable tool to help promote healthy conception and early pregnancy.
Often, couples encounter difficulties or delays when
trying to conceive, which can stem from a variety of medical
issues. Turning to acupuncture on its own or as a way
to complement other fertility treatments is a decision
that can often lead to success. Acupuncture treatments
for both parents promote the possibilities for successful
conception and pregnancy.
Healthy parents are the first step in creating a welcoming environment for conception. It has been shown that acupuncture positively affects the body's ability to provide the most natural and effective pathway for conception, especially for the mother, by:
Causing an increase in endorphins and serotonin, which play a role in helping the pituitary gland with follicle development
Helping to increase uterine and ovarian blood flow
Impacting the flow of hormones before ovulation
Reducing psychological and physical stress and tension, which negatively affect fertility.
Irregular menses
Polycystic ovaries
Repeated miscarriage
Thin uterine lining
Poor follicle production
Poor egg quality
Ovulation difficulties
Hypothyroidism
Fibroids
Endometriosis
Tubal Adhesions
Acupuncture can be started at any point in the menstrual cycle or at any point before a fertility treatment to enable the body to be as healthy as possible for conception. The more time before ovulation or retrieval, the better, because acupuncture treatments are cumulative. Three treatments to increase blood flow to the uterus and ovaries will be more effective than one treatment. Acupuncture treatments for women coincide with the phases of the menstrual cycle. Typically treatments are given during the menses, during follicle and uterine lining development, prior to ovulation, and during the window of embryo implantation. For those women undergoing IVF, acupuncture treatments are also given before egg retrieval and before embryo transfer. If an IVF cycle is more than a month away, acupuncture and some herbs can be used to build up a mother's resources and correct imbalances in preparation for the coming cycle.
