Acupuncture Video: How Does Acupuncture Work?
You're wondering...exactly how does acupuncture work? See this brief video about Natural Qi Acupuncture and Herbs...
Welcome! My name is Melani Bolyai. I’m a licensed acupuncturist, Chinese herbalist and childbirth doula. I have an acupunture and Chinese medical practice located in Union Square in Manhattan, New York, and this practice specializes in women’s health. Specifically, I treat women for fertility, during their pregnancies, and for postpartum recovery as well.
Traditional Chinese medicine is commonly used as a method of disease prevention because it can correct small imbalances in qi, or energy, flow before they become major illnesses. If a person ins already experiencing illness, acupuncture can both heal the the imbalance and prevent it from recurring.
When you come to see me, your session will begin with an intake interview and physical examination which allows me to create an individualized diagnosis and treatment plan specifically tailored to you.
Many points that are commonly used for treatment are below the elbows and knees and can be accessed with the patient completely clothed. Loose, comfortable clothing is usually recommended. owns and additional draping are provided, should they be needed.
A common question: does acupuncture hurt? Acupuncture is not painful. The needles I use are extremely fine: typically 25-50 times thinner than physicians' hypodermic ones. Each one is disposable and comes in a sterile package, and is never reused. They are so thin, that they are actually flexible. Patients typically say that acupuncture needles feel like a small tap on the skin, a small mosquito bite, or a tingling feeling around the insertion point. Acupuncture treatments are comfortable, and many patients find they are very relaxing, so much so that they fall asleep.
It is very common to use Chinese herbal medicine in conjunction with acupuncture treatment. If treatment of your condition will include taking traditional Chinese herbal medicine, you will discuss it after the treatment.
