I recently received an email comparing water and coke and how it relates to your body, as well as crazy facts about each. This inspired me to do more research on how much water really does relate and play a hug roll in the health of our bodies. So, I used a few good sources as well as the email and put together a list of facts about how water and the human body. Hope this inspires you to drink more water. You never know how much of a difference it will make.

  1. About 70% of your body is made up of water.
  2. Caffeine prevents water from traveling to the necessary parts of the body.
  3. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
  4. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak  that it is mistaken for hunger.
  5. Even MILD dehydration will slow down your metabolism as much as 3%.
  6. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.
  7. Water moistens tissue in places like the noise and mouth.
  8. A healthy person can drink up to 3 gallons of water a day (48 cups).
  9. Prescribed water intake is different for everyone, unlike the 8 cups a day recommendation you hear all the time.
  10. Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
  11. When a person finally starts to feel thirsty they have already lost over 1% of their total amount of water (in their body).
  12. Weight loss directly after exercise is all water.
  13. Water removes waste from our bodies.
  14. Water leaves the stomach five minutes after consumption.
  15. Men’s body water is higher than women.
  16. Our percent of water to body goes down as we age.
  17. Water (when we are drinking enough) moisturizes the skins and makes it look more radiant and healthy.
  18. We lose more water than usual if we are flying (in planes).
  19. The average adult loses 2.5-3 liters of water per day. Water has to be replaced by drinking it.
  20. Drinking the proper amounts of water will help deter chronic headaches.
  21. Water helps regulates body temperature.
  22. Water protects body organs and tissues.
  23. Water helps prevent constipation.
  24. Water lubricates joints.
  25. Water carries nutrients and oxygen to cells as well as dissolves minerals and vitamins so ti can be taken to parts of the body.
  26. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
  27. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
  28. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%.
  29. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%.
  30. A person who drinks 5 glasses of water daily is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer than someone who doesn’t.

With all of this being said we should probably all start drinking more water, even if we already drink a lot. It is imperative that we drink it for our mere survival but it seems like a no brainer that we drink it for our health, in general, and by way of bettering our health. Water is key to so many important bodily functions but it is also key in looking and feeling great on even less important levels like healthy skin and weight loss.
