Even though the history of acupuncture dates back over 5,000 years many people don’t know or understand just how many different disorders, diseases, and illnesses you can treat with acupuncture.  In fact there are so many conditions treated with acupuncture that is seems safe to say that it’s more likely that if you have a condition that it CAN be treated by acupuncture than the odds that it can’t. Acupuncture originated in China but has since become widely used in the western world too.

For those of you wondering what exactly it is that can be treated with acupuncture I have included a very long list of conditions treated with acupuncture. Please keep it mind that it is important to seek treatment from an experienced and licensed Acupuncturist.  I have also highlight a few treatment groups that some might find surprising.

Acupuncture for Pregnancy and Post Pregnancy- Believe it or not acupuncture can actually be very helpful with the discomforts of pregnancy as well as in certain child birthing issues, and is used to treat post pregnancy conditions too. During pregnancy acupuncture can be used for things like constipation and back pain. During childbirth acupuncture can be used for things like inducing labor and turning a breech baby. Post pregnancy acupuncture can treat conditions like Mastitis and “postpartum rejuvenation”.

Acupuncture for Skin Care- Even more so than using acupuncture for pregnancy related issues, many find it to be quite a surprise that acupuncture can be used to treat such conditions as rosacea, eczema, and acne.  For those of you who feel you have tried everything with your skin care issues, you should really consider acupuncture. It’s a great natural way to get rid of your skin condition.
Acupuncture for Weight Loss- Acupuncture is great for those who struggle with losing weight. If you are going to be treated for weightloss using acupuncture the acupuncturists will do a thorough exam and questionnaire regarding your lifestyle, eating habits, feelings, emotions, etc. They will use this information to determine what some of the main causes of your weight problem are. Then they will target particular points that aid in increasing or decreasing the appropriate things. For example, if your eating seems to be a sadness issue, they might increase your endorphins and make you happier (feeling). If it seems to have to do with cravings they will decrease your natural appetite.  Acupuncture takes a firsthand approach to weight loss by targeting specific issues and making the appropriate adjustments needed.

Acupuncture for Pain Cessation- Finally, one of the most common conditions treated by acupuncture is pain. Of course pain is a very broad statement but many kinds of pain can be treated using acupuncture including back pain, menstrual pain, headaches, joint pain, etc.
